Connections || your publishing journey

About - skinnerselfpub.com - J is for Jody

Greetings from the American East Coast! (For now, anyway.) I’m Jody E. Skinner, a military spouse who loves connecting with writers and editing professionals and pretty much anybody else.

Can I just say that I LOVE it when a writer’s dream comes true? I’m talking about the day a writer becomes a published author, holding their own book in their hands!

Are you a first-time author, navigating the crazy process of self-publishing? The world is changing, so a trusted voice is essential. Whether you work with me or a trusted colleague, you, too, can be successful in publishing your book on Amazon or other retailers.

Service with a smile 🙂

Partly because of how COVID-19 has changed the world, my availability is a bit less these days, while others’ schedules have opened up. My “treasures” in the book design world {besides “my” authors, of course!} are other providers, ones who serve with a smile, with positivity, and with integrity. Does that describe someone you would want to partner with?

I’m working on my Resources page to prioritize the people in my circle, ones I’ve worked with directly and have trusted with my own projects. Programs and courses have their place, but people are what truly matter.

I’m Jody Skinner.

I am a proud milspouse who loves Jesus, jeans, sunshine, and a good middle-grade or young-adult novel. I’m currently working through modern strangeness with my three teenagers, sorting out the new-normal realm of school and college, and how to maximize working *with* my ADHD brain instead of fighting it.

Extracurriculars involve school runs, band-mom adventures, and leash manners for my Vizsla pup. Coffee donations and dog playdates welcome.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

1 Peter 4:10

Over the last twenty-plus years, Jody has served as a pro bono proofreader and project formatter for charitable organizations. After deciding it was time for official training, she launched “Every Smidgen Matters” in 2017 (now Skinner Book Services). Since then, she’s invested thousands of training hours into programs like Adobe InDesign, the Vellum book formatting app, and the Microsoft Suite, and she’s continually researching modern publishing best practices.
